Back in the UK

The trip back to the UK was uneventful and it was somewhat disappointing to leave in a clear blue sky knowing that grey clouds would welcome us on our return to Gatwick.
Each visit to the island sets us better for the grand move next year as we meet more people and discover more places. Highlight of the trip? My wife talking to a local shepherd for the mandatory 5 minutes, to pass the "just enough Greek" test, though with the number of rakis downed, I could have given it a go as well!
The UK house is on the market and we have a buyer, so there appears to be "no going back" now. Rufus and Buffy have an appointment at the vets for their pet passports, preliminary contact with a pet travel company made and a well-known removal firm contacted for an estimate.
The next challenge is to discard all the unwanted and unneeded items of furniture, ex-gifts, treasures and all those things which would come in handy one day (i.e. never). But we have started.

Sunny again

Once the sun returned, we were able to devote time touring around. A short trip to Vrysses once the old road was open again, allowed us to wander around our nearest town ("to-be"), and discover what we could get locally. We even managed to talk to the Vet about bringing Rufus, Tigger and Buffy over with us. A tasty lunch at the taverna near the bridge allowed us to sit and watch the river still in full torrent.

We also ventured into Chania as we had to go to our bank. For years we hated going into Chania as it was always so hot and airless, but we just about found it bearable in October. We always go to the cafe in the public park (with the kri-kri) to relax before doing the town. Whilst wandering about the harbour we came across a museum housing a fascinating replica of a Minoan boat and the old Venetian warehouses on the waterfront.

Each time we visit Rethymnon or Chania we always discover something new - even the site of the Chania webcam on the harbour.
