Finding Georgioupolis

So how come we are bringing Tigger and Rufus to a new life in Crete? I first came to Greece in 1970 but it was not for another 20 years that we returned, this time to Crete. No doubt influenced by "Who pays the Ferryman" we ended up holidaying in Elouda. Two years later we decided to return to the island and after much difficulty we finally found a travel company called "Inspirations" (now long defunct) offering holidays to Crete in their brochure. It was not quite choosing the little known village of Georgioupolis with a pin, but I was persuaded that this was the place for us .... and we have returned on and off ever since, finally buying a plot of land a few years back.

What do I remember of that holiday? A national highway with little traffic, grey-blue buses with sliding windows for air-conditioning, cars and taxis which had decidedly seen better days (definitely different now!). The first experience of the winds of Crete, battling on the roof terrace of the hotel to save bottles of drink behind the bar crashing into smithereens - fortunately a Scottish guy helped with this vital task (but with even more gusto). More significantly, the ideal holiday destination for rest and relaxation ... and to run away from the pressures of work.... and soon that will hopefully be for good?

Now you will be asking about Rufus and "Tigger" so......
